Checked my brain onto the shelf and went to go see Jumper. It was pretty much everything you'd expect:
  • The plot is terrible/non-existent.
  • Samuel L. Jackson is embarrassingly bad.
  • The Jumpers, on the other hand, are excellent, both in characterization and special effects. "Well, I was 15... what would YOU do?"
  • Best. Superpowered. Fight scenes. Evar. They actually used their powers, rather than standing around and trading punches.
  • The poor Ann Arbor Public Library, I'm sure, did nothing to warrant that sort of abuse. And yet...
  • The entire 'subplot' with his mother was convoluted, unnecessary, and apparently unrelated to the original book (so saith Wikipedia). More's the pity, as Diane Lane could have been so much more.

Anyway, worth the weekday/matinée price, certainly.

What I liked was that the action was quick enough that any time I caught one of those "Hey wait, that doesn;t work..." type moments, I didn't get to be bothered by the logic flaw because they would quickly jump back in with a bus or something odd.

Yeah, the only thing that bothered me often enough to remember was trying to sort out why things would crack/move when they Jumped.

Gravitational anomaly?
Mass displacement?
Imprecise Jump field?

...WHAT? I Want To Know!!?!

When they came in, they instantly displaced a large amount of air.

Although when they came in with a car, this effect should have been much more intense, but instead the effect seemed to go away.

But who cared, they were throwing buses!

I loved the novel years ago, and will probably really enjoy the film after setting my expectations to LOW.
I hope to catch it soon.

in my copious spare time...

I had sort of lackadaisically wanted to see this, but your analysis suggests I might actually enjoy it, if I check my brain at the door as you did. :)
