triadruid: Two stick figures from the webcomic XKCD, fighting with swords while they are supposed to be coding (compiling)
2012-05-16 09:55 am

I've been trying to make this post for most of a week...

...which only exemplifies the problem.

To wit, I used to be one of those people whose First World Problems included "if I could just win the lottery, all of my financial woes would be solved and I could do whatever I wanted". Which, while true, isn't really the 'problem' anymore. Realistically if I could win/make/steal the same amount I take home NOW without having to go to work, I could do pretty much do what I want to do, I'd just have the time to actually do it! That, or somebody invents a 25 30 36-hour day... we'll see which happens first.

I have too many hobbies/tasks. I don't want to give up ANY of them. Hell, I've got ones I want to do I haven't even been able to properly begin (hello archery). I've been going to the gym down the street since cardiac rehab ended, which is AWESOME, but sucks up somewhere between 70 and 130 minutes of the days I manage to go. I've not done any real coding in months, and this week (hopefully) I'll reinstall All The Operating Systems and be ready to play Diablo III in my nonexistent free(r) time. And let's not even talk about costuming...

Anyway, lunchtime's a-wasting. Hope your life is as full and exciting as mine, but perhaps not moreso.

Three things unlike each other:

  1. Someone has borrowed my Path of Daggers book, I just realized when I wanted to look something up yesterday. Anyone want to fess up/return it? I have a couple of suspects based on who has been reading RJ lately, but I'll not name names, since I didn't even remember loaning it out.
  2. Tuesday is Celebrate Bisexuality Day. I have no idea as yet what I'll be doing to observe that lil' holiday, seeing as I have a orgy meeting at my house that evening. Suggestions welcome.
  3. Speaking of suggestions, one of my bumper stickers is dying the final, sun-baked death. It's the "Freedom of Religion Means Any Religion" one, which now looks more like:
    Images behind cut )
Ideas for a replacement? I'm contemplating getting an Obama sticker, but we're not supposed to be campaigning on the job, and sometimes I need to take my car to work events. Other strong possibilities would be a Gaia Community bumper sticker, or one of the random belligerent Celt stickers we have rattling around the house...

Having just recompleted my music collection

Today's XKCD seemed especially appropriate to pass on as a warning:

In other image news, the deities who rule Google Seppuku are not those you might expect. Aphrodite? page 16 before porn. Guinevere? 1st page. But Lilith rings in with Image 2, so that restores some balance to the universe, I'm sure.

Just in time for Valentine's Day

I missed this one on the news at the time, but Dan Savage just brought it to my attention:

Musical clue-phone, it's for you..

Woke up to a lovely little erotic dream about a former lover this morning... then somethingone tickled the back of my brain, and I panned back on the CD my alarm was playing. "Surely not..."

Yep. Soft Cell's 'Tainted Love' was playing while that was going on. Right, message received... thanks Α. Looks like he's back. At least the Rob Zombie the other day was an upbeat memo...

Hardly content-free at all

I'm argumentative today. Okay, strike that; I'm more argumentative than usual today. I'm not sure if this bodes well or ill for my evening and Saturday. On the other hand, this post has been percolating since Tuesday, at least, I just haven't been around to make it...

A couple of things crossed my radar going in opposite directions this last week. The first was Rosie O'Donnell's idiotic comments about "Ching Chong Chinamen" (which I apparently missed back in December), and the video rebuttal from Beau Sia, an Chinese-American slam artist. I really enjoyed his take on the issue, which made my reaction to Exhibit B all the more surprising.

George Takei took issue with retired sports figure Tim Hardaway's homophobic remarks last week, and recorded a "mock PSA" in which he began in an informative and neutral style, then camped it up by commenting on how much he "really liked" Hardaway, running his fingers up the leg of Hardaway's image behind him and making various not-so-thinly-veiled innuendos. See the video clip for yourself. Somehow, this rubbed me the wrong way from the get-go; I don't think it's kosher to "taunt" someone who is uncomfortable with homosexuality any more than it's okay to taunt a gay man by throwing them amidst a pack of horny females, for example. The final line "And one day, when you least expect it, I WILL have sex with you!" was just the capstone of that problem for me - it feeds right into the prejudices that already exist, and doesn't do a damn thing to create a dialogue, as far as I can tell. It's reverse bigotry in my world, but several people I know liked the skit, so maybe I'm out of the 'norm' here. But on the other hand, I'm not sure I agree with the NBA's decision to ban him Hardaway from all future All-Star events.

Full of varied and varying... things

This is sort of a manual aggregation of thoughts and other people's recent commentary that deserves a broader audience.
  • From [livejournal.com profile] gamera_spinning:
Newsflash: Republicans blame election losses on Democrats, claims The Onion.
What's that quote about art and life?
  • From [livejournal.com profile] ishara: Don't under any circumstances visit the LiveJournal account "silent_and_calm", as she detected an intrusion attempt on her computer due to some dodgy HTML there. This is the same account [livejournal.com profile] breathofgold was talking about a week or two ago, that serially adds people as friends who makes new entries, using a script of some type. Looks like a vulnerability bot, and has already been reported to LJ Abuse repeatedly I'm sure. Just so's ya know, you can ban a user from your journal/Friends of list (even though it doesn't give them any rights/privileges) by going to the Admin Console and entering:
    ban_set username

  • About yesterday: No, I'm not going to post a big diatribe/hallelujah about the election results. Most of it turned out okay, but the Light Air Gondola Rail thing - seriously, what the fuck? I don't even remember seeing that on the ballot. However, checks && balances == good.
  • Actually yesterday was full of meetings and trainings (3 of 'em) and coffee, which might have contributed to my staying up half the night reading bad fan fiction a Star Wars novel. I now know more about Darth Bane than I ever felt necessary. Mostly, though, all Sith just need their daddies. All of 'em.
  • For [livejournal.com profile] labstar: She's requested "more sex, less politics" in today's LJ, but OKCupid.com is blocked from work so the meme that's been on my list will have to wait until I get home. Won't somebody help a poor girl out?

Versimilitude

Sometimes, dreams about having sex are useful for more than just the obvious reasons...

Sometimes, dreaming about having sex while you're almost-late for something will wake you up when you're late for work and forgot to turn on your alarm the night before.

Yeesh.

Must be getting old

First, a quiz: Uh huh, tell me another one, Kojak... )

So I'm officially "over 30" now; birthday was quiet, overall, with most of the screaming confined to my neck spasms being worked on. Did I mention I'm getting old? I also made it to work on time this morning, which is really unlikely, all things of the morning considered.

On the plus side, I had my first annual review on Monday, for a job (or at least organization) which may very well carry me through to retirement. Now that'll make you feel old!

Note to self

Apparently two shots of whisky make you horny (and sleepy, which was the desired effect).

That, or toasting Sorah makes you horny, which might be more indicative of something.

*But*, I did get to sleep, which is the important part. See you all in a couple of days.
