Dec. 17th, 2004 04:02 pm"Rumsfeld’s obsession with machines and their efficiency has translated into his using one to replace his own John Hancock on KIA (killed in action) letters to parents and spouses. Two Pentagon-based colonels, who’ve both insisted on anonymity to protect their careers, have indignantly reported that the SecDef has relinquished this sacred duty to a signature device rather than signing the sad documents himself."
Although understandably difficult to corroborate, there's additional evidence to lead one to believe that President Bush isn't hand-signing his letters to the relatives of fallen soldiers either.

What the blue, melting fuck? It's not enough to persuade a country to go to war on flimsy pretenses, you can't even have the decency to get personally involved in counting the cost, or comforting the afflicted??
It's days like this that make me pleased I live where I rarely have to see these individuals, face-to-face. I might be inclined to do something...personal.

Date: 2004-12-17 10:32 pm (UTC)Bush has never shown the slightest inclination towards listening to anything that might suggest that he screwed up, and is screwing up, royally. His latest trend towards replacing cabinet members with toadies, so is it any real surprise that Rumsfeld is but following his leader's example when it comes to dealing with the families of the dead.
It's too bad that the two cannot be foced to address the families of both fallen Americans and the killed Iraqui civilians. Granted, I doubt that the resposibility would change the opinions of these men who seem unable to see beyond the length of their noses, but such duties might keep them too busy to screw over the rest of us.
