In theory, this should be a lot easier than the coffin idea from last year (pumpkin is a damn sight easier to to cut, not to mention join).

Imagine pumpkins being not just gutted, but filleted. Imagine dismembered pumpkin pieces littered across a concrete garage floor, their entrails dumped aside for later roasting, as the humans laugh and dance around their gruesome task. Imagine these pieces then being spitted on wooden spikes and used for nefarious pagan purposes. Imagine, then, this macabre display being taken outside for the entire world to see.

Imagine Pumpkinhenge.

We're gonna need more pumpkins.

::edit:: Pictures of the final product can now be found here!

How many sections are we going to need, oh research guru?

(Because that's what the internet is for: "How many stones are there in Stonehenge?" "Are there any gay Muppets?", etc.)

If we do it 'right', there are 30 uprights and 30 crossbars in the outer circle, 5 more sets of three in the center, plus maybe the tall altar stone and a heel stone. Anything else is probably too obscure to attempt, with the possible exception of the bluestones which sort of make a shorter crescent between the outer circle and the inner trilithons.

It is of course possible to do a representation without making everything 1:50 scale accurate, or do the 'modern remnants' version which probably has about 2/3 as many stones.

I think that in this case, "right" is closely equivalent to "recognizable". I vote for the modern remnants version.

This really sort of lets out the possibility of candy sacrifices in the center, but I think that's ok. We didn't get any peeps anyway.

One more time...

About half the stones seem to be still in existence. So 50-60 slabs instead of 110-120....

So, when are you planning to commit this pumpkin massacre? It sounds like fun, and I conveniently don't have any kids this weekend. (though I do still have the puppy...)

Probably during the daylight tomorrow, preferrably on the front lawn ;)

If you're free, you can probably come over. We have to go run some errands first thing, but we can call/email/IM when we're ready.
