Don't pickyourself or someone you know really well, because that's lame.

Date: 2004-07-12 05:27 pm (UTC)Hek is a fantastically competent druid(ess) that I had the pleasure to meet during the Autumn Gathering up in Badgerland, err Wisconsin, a few years ago. She made us feel very welcome and put on one hell of an event, and improved my overall view of ADF for the better. She has never given me cause to change that opinion based on her actions.
She was also one of the first few people that I found on LJ, and I although we don't comment on each other's journals very often, I know that her opinion will be well-reasoned and most of all, honest. Having gotten to know her better through this medium, I would indeed like to see her again sometime, hopefully in the Isles.

Date: 2004-07-12 05:37 pm (UTC)Indeed, I have a terribly sororal relationship with her, which is not based on genetics, but possibly the fact that we both went to school in the Little Apple at one point, and enjoy many but not all of the same things. She's dogged in a pillow fight, and I suspect if she hadn't been so *hammered* she would have acquitted herself much better. She also enjoys climbing mountains if they're handy, rocks if she must, which is something that is on my To-Do list with her though she may not know it yet. We have a certain degree of physical resemblance (height and build), though she looks much better in a leopard-print bra-and-panty set than I do, I am sure. At least, that's what those who have the ability to look at her and not see "younger sister" tell me.
She is also frighteningly knowledgeable about things Ancient and/or Greek, and will demonstrate this at little or no provocation. Luckily, this ability does not diminish when she is drunk, although she does develop a tendency to over-Latinize words she can no longer clearly pronounce. Inebriatory linguistics, anyone?
Finally, I aspire one day to have as much jackleg carpentry skill in my whole body as she has in her left arm. But I suspect I will not live that long.

Date: 2004-07-12 05:57 pm (UTC)I could probably fill a slightly smaller volume with the ways in which we have fought, and disappointed, and irritated each other. I treated her poorly when I left her for the last time, and although it was for the best in the end, how it was done is still a big regret in my memory. She showed me so many of the things that I have come to treasure in life, both about dating and women, but also experience, creativity, and getting out there and doing it (after you research obsessively so that you know how to do it, of course!).
We still talk, though not as often as we should or would like to, and I know I can ask her anything, be it about Microsoft Excel, or painting my bathroom, or how to love someone without being a 'toad', and she will tell me the honest truth. I hope that she feels the same way.

Date: 2004-07-12 07:28 pm (UTC)He is, in addition, an irrepressible flirt, despite having a dedicated relationship with a woman back in Ohio who has the good sense not to be on LiveJournal. However as he himself will tell you, he's "just flirting", and never intends any harm or confusion by it. Luckily, he both means it, and is good at it. And despite an unfortunate tendency toward good-natured jealousy whenever more than one male (meaning him) is in the area, he gets along just fine with the men, too.
But really, what more can you say about a Republican who regularly castigates GWB, and a devout heterosexual who writes his congresscritters about gay rights?

Date: 2004-07-12 09:11 pm (UTC)She is the single mother of a delightful little girl (based on the pictures and stories), and a member of ADF, of course. Other than that, I only wish I could remember at some point to ask her the origin of her LJ name.

Date: 2004-07-13 05:20 pm (UTC)Besides, you didn't specify that we could only have one go. And although I percieve that I know you well, and you probably share that opinion, it is still a perception, and not an objective fact. As such, it requires confirmation in repeated tests.
So nyah.
OK
Date: 2004-07-14 02:16 am (UTC)The hair is longer, but thinner. The wit is less profane but more obscene. The reading material hasn't changed much, but the music tastes have. The religion has shifted, though exactly how different Druidry is from Anglican/Episcopalian is up for debate. The company he keeps is definitely different; 1 or 2 friends in 6th grade, 3-4 in 11th grade, and now easily a dozen good friends.
It's not without price. He truly is as an introvert living the life of an extrovert, on amphetamines. Making up for lost time? Maybe. Quality of companions? He hopes so, though there are times he still wants the world to go away and leave him alone in his own head. Other times, what's in his own head is reason enough to go seek out company, or other distraction.
He is both healthier than he looks, and more wounded. He won't volunteer much about himself, but if he trusts you he'll tell you anything. He is honest to a fault, frequently. He is still dishonest to himself and others about some times; some things are not ready to see the light.
Most of all, he's a Saggitarian with Scorpio tendencies, a Druid living in the Midwest by choice, and a crime-fighter with deviant tendencies. And he is eminently unelectable.
