Not entirely sure, but I think "Our House" was sung by the Mary Jane Girls. Definitely an 80s band, though not a grunge or hair band.

I thought it was Crosby, Stills and Nash. But I could be wrong, I often am.

Nonono, it's a brit pop band. Not the Kinks or Pet Shop Boys...it'll come to me.

Ahhhhhhh, it's Madness. I have the tape. Don't laugh, I really do, I love that song. Sigh.

Well I'm glad we got that cleared up.

The only reason I had it on the brain is because it's on the "New Wave" compilation CD that I've been using to wake up to lately. However the CD itself is screaming pink with black polka dots, and doesn't have band or song names on it.

::giggling:: I have that CD too. I think my elusive daughter snagged it from me. It does scream a little.

you're right, it's a new wave band called Madness, it's off the Rise and Fall album.

Father wears his Sunday best
Mother's tired she needs a rest
The kids are playing up downstairs
Sister's sighing in her sleep
Brother's got a date to keep
He can't hang around

Our house, in the middle of our street
Our house, in the middle of our ...

Our house it has a crowd
There's always something happening
And it's usually quite loud
Our mum she's so house-proud
Nothing ever slows her down
And a mess is not allowed

Our house, in the middle of our street
Our house, in the middle of our ...

Our house, in the middle of our street
Our house, in the middle of our ...
Something tells you that you've got to get away from it

Father gets up late for work
Mother has to iron his shirt
Then she sends the kids to school
Sees them off with a small kiss
She's the one they're going to miss
In lots of ways

Our house, in the middle of our street
Our house, in the middle of our ...

I remember way back then when everything was true and when
We would have such a very good time such a fine time
Such a happy time
And I remember how we'd play simply waste the day away
Then we'd say nothing would come between us two dreamers

Father wears his Sunday best
Mother's tired she needs a rest
The kids are playing up downstairs
Sister's sighing in her sleep
Brother's got a date to keep
He can't hang around

Our house, in the middle of our street
Our house, in the middle of our street

Our house, in the middle of our street
Our house, in the middle of our ...

Our house, was our castle and our keep
Our house, in the middle of our street

Our house, that was where we used to sleep
Our house, in the middle of our street

Our house, in the middle of our street

why do i know all this? cuz this is my kid's favorite song since our house happens to sit in the middle of our street. LOL! :)

Oh. *That* Our House. I was thinking of the "Our house is a very very very fine house, with two cats in the yard", etc.

See above re: often wrong.

I'll be damned

You weren't wrong; at least, not for the song you were thinking of.

I was think you were on crack for assigning CSN to a new Wave song, but it turns out the one you're thinking of *is* a CSN/Y song.

Huh. Learn something new every day.

Had the other one occurred to me, although I would not have been able to identify the band, I would have at least been able to place it properly in the context of time and musical fads. *imperious sniff*
However, the thing that came immediately to mind was the other, and the one you were actually thinking of never entered in.

Whoops!! I got the wrong song there by a mile and a half (LOL). Fortunately, I was not the only one. The song I was thinking of was a hip-hop tune, and may actually have been called "My House."

So little time, so many houses ...
