Spent some Quality Time this afternoon fighting with Microsoft Word, which apparently is structurally incapable of rotating a text box as of the 2003 edition. No word on whether they've solved that problem in Office 2007... ergh. I ended up finding a high-res image of the text I was after, but that was just duMb with a capital M (see?). I just checked, and OpenOffice.org not only can manage this marvelous feat, it can do free rotation around multiple points in the text box! Madness, I tell you.

Also, my dogs are INSANE. Bark, bark, bark... what's that? Nothing! I'll BARK at it! Neither of us surface dwellers got a whole lot of sleep last night, although I can't vouch for [livejournal.com profile] zylch. The neighbor has a cat, but seriously... I don't want to use the bark collar on the Yellow Menace, because she's an outside-all-the-time dog now, but I had thought she was starting to get acclimated. Going out to poke her/distrupt her laser focus just seems to encourage her to make more noise so you'll come outside again. :/ At least our yard is big enough that the neighbors haven't complained.

On the other hand, it gave me a few hours of dark and relatively quiet (in the office anyway) night to catch up on a few things... more on that tomorrow. Now, dinner and a movie book about Nazis with mostly real hair, mostly winning World War II.

::edit:: Oh, right, the other Thing of the Absurd: We've finally gotten back onto the 'main thread' of the Amnesia Campaign that [livejournal.com profile] featherynscale and I are running, which allowed us to look ahead more than a half-session. If they survive what's coming, they should... oh, double their XP before they're done. And if they don't, well... }:-)

Heh. She escaped the other dayfor the first time, ironically while we were getting ready to take her for a walk. Unlike Fractal, she would much rather go run in circles and dive into the woods after wildlife than visit the neighborhood kids and dogs... she eventually slowed down once she got tired. We were just afraid she wasn't going to be able to find her way back.

I must have missed that day...

Zylch slept the sleep not of the just (for which she does not qualify), but certainly the sleep of the very very tired, which is damn near as good. Sound doesn't seem to carry too well to/from the dungeon.

As for Word2007, I found a way to make text go vertically, but it doesn't want to rotate at unusual angles in text-box form. It seems you have to use wordart for that. (Word2007 is also fuller-than-ever of "Here, let Bill Gates format that for you, because he knows what you want even if you don't want it" gizmos.

As always, liking Corel and OO.o better than the MS offering.

When I want rotated text with Word or Excel I use Word Art then mess with the formatting a lot so that it looks more like a normal text box.

Yeah, that's the 'workaround' I discovered, which isn't really sufficient when you're trying to replicate the city logo. *shrug* It's just a dumb limitation, since you can rotate almost every other kind of drawing object...

When she hung out here, we had to have at least 50% of the human population there snoogled with her at night. With it getting colder out, if she's not as active during the day then she will be bored at night. She's asking things to play; rabbits, stars, leaves, air... 8-)

I eventually had to get the bark collar, after which she calmed right down (or at least quieted down). She can't come inside, and she's making both the humans and the other dog crazy with the noise (Fractal literally was twitching and whining).

*sigh* I know she's used to being an indoor/outdoor dog, but that can't happen here.

I do hope the bark collar will rehab the behavior for you soon.

By the way, it largely has. I had to show it to her and let her sniff it the other day, and otherwise she's been mostly quiet at night, without even having to wear it. :)

Thought you'd like to know.

There is a "dog whisperer" show that the kids watch, I wish I had more time to watch it before Marles was out here, but it is amazing to see how this little British lady makes progress with some pretty roughneck pups.

I will also note that the little insertable earplugs cut down more noise than the big over-the-ear types. 8-) Or, since you have Via the engineer, a noise-guided super-soaker system? 8-)
