I don't have any commentary on the VP debate last night. I was instead out listening to Slayer, speaking at an AoG church, speeding, folding newsletters, eating dinner, kicking my fiancée's ass at pool, and having sex. It's an exciting, fun-filled life I lead.

I might watch it on the retreads, but for right now I'm enjoying other people's interpretations of it. And I'm just pleased Biden didn't catch a fatal case of Foot-in-Mouth disease.

For now, though, that meme:
In honor of Sarah Palin's having been stumped by Katie Couric when she asked the Vice Presidential candidate to name any Supreme Court decision other than Roe v. Wade, we have a meme. The Rules: post info about ONE Supreme Court decision, modern or historic, to your LJ. (Any decision, as long as it's not Roe v. Wade.) Pass on the educational fun!

Since Palin was actually asked to name a case she disagreed with, how about... oh, I dunno, Dred Scott (not really a person)? Bush v. Gore (nuff said)? Roth v. United States (obscene material is still not protected speech)? I had to look up the case name on the last one, but I remember looking that one up offline before there was a World Wide Web...

fun-filled life

I'm imagining all that happening at the AoG church. Could make things more exciting but less fun-filled, I'm not sure.

I actually didn't intend the music to be such a counterpoint, but the cassette I grabbed didn't turn out to be what I thought...

On the other hand, it wasn't Queen, so, that's good.

If memory serves, Dred Scott was actually a person, a slave, freed due to being in a state where slavery had been abolished, who was re-enslaved by his former owner and the government of Missouri? when he returned there. There were a lot of appeals and what not, but the ultimate decision sucked.

It was never overturned officially, but the 14th? amendment made it a null point of contention.

My constitutional memory sucks, though, I'm still debating 13th vs 14th amendment in my head.

Sorry, I wasn't being clear; that was my summary of DS v. Sandford, not a commentary on Scott's personhood/existence.

Dred Scott was ruled not to be (and never could be) a citizen with rights under the Constitution, which was certainly not the high court's finest hour. And yes, the case was originally brought in Missouri. :)

D'oh, that makes perfect sense.

That's what I get for commenting in the wee hours.

Tom Araya has successfully countered accusations of racial bias, and therefore is more qualified than Sarah Palin.

He supports our troops and is anti-abortion. The Republican party could do worse.

Idle observation about the election: Nobody's speculating on John McCain's leadership capabilities anymore.

I just have to say: while that was probably not the best game of pool you have ever played in your life, it was easily the best one I have ever personally witnessed. IMPRESSIVE!

Thank you! I'm also getting my skills back, so I like playing more often again too. :)

(it might have been my best run, though... 1 ball, 7 balls, then 3, then 2?)

Also, room reserved. I rule!

Also, given that the question to Palin was about cases she disagreed with the outcome of, I'm surprised she didn't go for Lawrence v. Texas.
