Go to TWK's journal; somebody's implying that Eastern Europe had mecha in the 60s.

How did we win the Cold War, again?!?

Two words: Star Wars.

No, not the ill-conceived Reagan defense plan, the movies. From Star Wars, we learned that the only thing you need to have in order to defeat a mecha-type machine is a good solid tripwire. In a contest of intimidation, nothing that can be beaten by a string is worth the millions of rubles spent in development.

That's only because the AT-AT, AT-ST, and other Imperial walkers all share the same major design flaw. Once knocked down they are immobilized, and may even explode on contact with the ground. Humanoid mechs can get back up because they have hands to push with.

If I were criticizing this one I'd be more likely to start at the windows. No self-respecting military tankbot would have that much glass in its face.

Not that I would criticize any damn five-meter mecha, or the kid holding the remote control.
