Anyone can play, even if they weren't involved before. This one isn't for points, just for kicks.

So [livejournal.com profile] featherynscale is having some health worries. And as All Of You probably know, none of our family has any desire to exist in an unrecoverable state like Terri Schivo or my now-departed mother. So she's considering getting a "DNR" tattoo on her chest, much like Mary Wohlford of Decorah, Iowa. I suggested it again today at lunch, but only if she could think of some other use for the tattoo in the event that she lives another 50 years.

So the question to you, gentle readers, is what else does "DNR" stand for if placed on her ample and impressive bosom? (if you need context, here's a photo of the target zone, more or less)

Damn Nice Rack is the obvious one. Drooling Not Recommended might be another. But really, any tattooing would just spoil the beauty of the landscape.

I don't really know what else it could stand for...but I wouldn't mar that lovely bosom.

I'd put the tattoo where the second pad (paddles being a thing of the past) for the defibrillator go: midline axilliary line on her left side (roughly 10cm below your arm pit on the side of your chest), far away from marking up breasts.

Of course, if you tattoo DNR, you have to tattoo your signature too...that could get interesting

(Can you tell I've thought about this? Actually my plan is to just start writing it on in sharpie marker when I get older...)

The fact that it was tattoo'd on proves that at some point the skin that it mars has signed off on it, as tattooing requires signatures, so that should be enough, shouldn't it?

I doubt that a tattooed instruction would be any more legally binding than a bloody thumbprint on the dotted line, and for the same reasons.

I think you're exactly right... although searching about the whole idea turned up some interesting stories.

No, because the paper you sign to get the tattoo has to do with the legality of getting the tattoo...not your wishes about resuscitation.

After looking at some of the news stories about people who have actually tattoo-ed DNR on themselves, the consensus seems to be that they don't hold up legally...even with a signature.

DNR's are tricky things. In some states you have to produce the original paper for it to be honored, sometimes there are different DNR's for in hospital versus out...

It's a mess really.
