Almost completed the Great Music Acquisition Project of 2008. A few more CDs to rip and then I'll finally be able to make mine for the CD Swap project initiated by [livejournal.com profile] featherynscale.

A few pieces were remarkably difficult to find through online filesharing, though:
  • Guns 'n' Roses, selected discography (stalled for a week at 93% for some reason, can probably find another version)
  • Child's Play's Rat Race is only available on a private torrent, which I can't seem to get to.
  • Testament's Souls of Black is not available at all for some reason... (I didn't think it was that bad)
  • A collection titled "Best of Scorpions" is similarly unavailable, and trying to re-create it from other albums has been difficult, to say the least. This is a WEIRD collection of old Scorpions, like "Dark Lady", "Hell Cat", and "Steamrock Fever". May need to search again on this one...
  • KISS, "Double Platinum" - stalled? No results? What the hell?!?
On the other hand, Amazon's MP3 downloading store is likely to be very useful, and means I don't have to join the Cult of iTunes... and their store works with Linux, if not Windows 2000, perversely. I just have to find a portable audio player that accepts Ogg Vorbis, MP3, and .FLAC (that was a new one on me, and I can probably convert them if need be).

Ha! Nick Cave!
(I have nothing constructive to add, sorry.)

S'okay; I have little fear that I will fail to learn something new from you today...

I'll try to think of something *especially* educational. :)

Let me know if you continue having trouble finding the Kiss you want; I have the Double Platinum CD (and MP3s).

(And is it properly "Kiss" or "KISS"??)

Probably can't help with the rest though; I have exactly one Scorpions song ("Hit Between The Eyes" from the FreeJack soundtrack) and one G'n'R song ("Live & Let Die" from the Grosse Pointe Blank soundtrack), and no Child's Play (who?) or Testament.

Someday I might re-rip my collection in FLAC.....

KISS/kiss, BANG/bang?

Their website uses all caps.. of course, it uses unnecessary caps for a lot of things, so it's hard to tell.

I can't imagine that DP is that hard to find, I just searched on a bad day, perhaps. Also, I wasn't looking for a full discography, since I only have three albums by them..

I can't really hear any significant difference between Ogg and FLAC, but some of the torrents I found only came in that format, so I said "what the hell..."

Testament. Dude. The Ritual was one of the best metal albums of my late adolescence, largely because of Alex Skolnick's lead playing. Much more harmonically inventive than his peers. No great surprise that he flipped the equation, and was last seen playing jazz versions of various 70s and 80s hard rock/metal tunes. (I'm not kidding.)

And bonus points for leading off a post about metal music with a Nick Cave reference. =)

My fault, I'm afraid. This morning, [livejournal.com profile] triadruid and I were having a conversation during which I revealed my wretched and shameful crush on Nick Cave. [livejournal.com profile] triadruid patted me on the head and assured me that this was acceptable behaviour. *grin*

Heh. I found The Ritual without any trouble, this other one is just giving me trouble for some reason.... course, I haven't listened to it much, either.

Hmmm. Couldn't get you to burn me an audio copy of The Ritual, could I? =)

I was trying all day long at work to remember what song that was from. I do loves me some Nick. Personal favorite is the "Mutiny" EP by The Birthday Party.
