The Good
  • Obama won Missouri's primary last night (and Kansas' caucus, by a significantly larger margin). I'm excited again, though the race is far from over.
  • JalapeƱos and cream cheese still make for tasty, if unorthodox, sushi components.
  • The Flogging Molly show was excellent, as were the opening acts, The Rev. Peyton's Big Damn Band (swamp stomp with an electric washboard - really) and Dusty Rhodes and the River Band (who we barely heard, having arrived slightly late).
  • The Hibernian Septuagenarian Society was out in full force and dress, holding court near the back of the club. Very classy.

The Bad
  • Home internet is out, or at least highly intermittent (packet monitoring looks a bit like the EKG of someone in a coma). TWC is supposed to be out today to fix it, since all the usual tricks we know availed us not. Insanely irritating, but luckily we haven't been home all that much lately.
  • Weather sucks, though it did cancel my noon meeting today; it didn't seem that bad to me, but people keep reminding me that Iowegians have a different definition of 'winter'. Certainly, rain+sleet+snow is not my idea of a good time, but the sweaters are warm...
  • Bit of a sore throat today, on account of the unrelenting cigarette/other smoke at the concert, and all of our coats Reek of Bar at this point.

The Ugly
  • A little bit of craziness at the concert last night; thought I was going to get into a fight with a very large gentleman who was insisting on going where [livejournal.com profile] featherynscale was trying to go (to get outside), but turns out he was just staff trying to get to the soundboard. Probably just as well... I wasn't that mad.
  • The 6'4" guy "standing" next to me at the end of the show who kept nodding off; this wasn't a little "head-bob", this was more like his impression of a falling redwood, or a gyroscope in its last moments. His wife kept trying to slap him awake, and he'd blink and then go right back to it. I eventually leaned over to her and said "Was he up all night or something?" She looked at me and said "No, he's just a ----ing drunk!". Oh.

The Just-Plain-Odd
  • Toward the end of the show, I took a cue from the similarly-height-challenged [livejournal.com profile] otterdancing, and climbed up onto a railing (the Beaumont is a great place to listen to a show, but a terrible venue for seeing a show; I wasn't much taller than anyone of actual height at this point, and the people behind me had obviously given up on line-of-sight problems). A very cute woman in a cloth corset was shimmying in front of me at one point, and backed up accidentally into the "traffic lane" behind the Crush and in front of the railing. She apologized to the person she ran into, who waved her off and kept going. Then about 40 seconds later she turned and apologized to me (I was still about 2 1/2 feet behind her at this point). I blinked and waved her off, but leaned forward to yell "I don't think anyone minds you moving." She said "Oh, but I was worried about bumping into people!" I assured her that people wouldn't likely mind that, either...
  • It doesn't matter how little Flogging Molly you've actually listened to; after two Guinness, you can sing along with EVERYTHING.

Clearly, I need to remedy the lack of Flogging Molly in my life. Any suggestions on where to start?

Yes. I suggest listening to a few songs first, then attempt the "drinking heavily and singing along" step.

Yay! I am glad you had fun at the concert. It was fun reading about your adventures since we couldn't come up and go with.

you forgot a part of the good and a part of the bad...
the good: almost all the leftover carpet has been removed from the basement
the bad: this is because there is another leak in the foundation, right behind where the entertainment center used to be, also, only mosly removed because there is a really funky thing going on with the bar area of carpet, there is indeed a tack strip in front of the bar, yet the carpet actually goes under the bar as well...

Well, crap. I was hoping the leak was just a temporary thing...

Yes, they do! I love the jalapeno roll at Matsu in KC.
