Feb. 2nd, 2006 05:22 pmMy mother, Katherine Edna MacClanahan Spenler (née Reynolds, briefly) passed away Monday afternoon at 12:15, after three weeks in hospice following a final extended seizure from which she never regained consciousness. Almost all of her family had a chance to visit during these last few months before she died, which was good. The funeral will be this Saturday afternoon at the Methodist church she used to go to before the Brownsville Revival, although I won't be going down for it.
I'm strangely peaceful about it (probably because of the long warning), but I wanted you all to know how much I appreciate your concern over the last few months. My middle sister is having the roughest time of it; she's in her mid-teens and has watched my mom degenerate for the last decade or so, so most her firm memories are of ill-health.
My biggest regret (and the only thing that's made me teary so far) is that she never got the chance to meet
featherynscale and fall in love with her the way she did when
kittenpants and I went down there (the end result of that visit from my family was "well, we love her and we're keeping her, even if things don't work out between the two of you"). I'm sure she'd have liked my other rebellious, unorthodox, sassy girlfriend just as much.
I'll probably scan in some of my favorite pictures of her later.
