Back home. Worst thing we saw on the road (besides the expected 837 cars-in-ditches, since it snowed an inch) was a Hummer pulled over by the State Patrol. I didn't even know those things could GO fast enough on level ground to get arrested for speeding...

Und now, a quiz.

You are Buckaroo Banzai! Hard-rockin' neurosurgeon, brilliant scientist, and all-around cool guy. Maybe you didn't have the cinematic success of some of the other guys here, but it's okay - you're a cult classic!

Gary Wallace, though, that seems more likely somehow. *shrug*

Note that after the real hummer came all the Hummer Lites... they are basically a GMC truck with a hummer skin. They are not-Hummers in my eyes because of many things, one of which is that the not-Hummers have a solid transaxle, not the cool angled up axle that gave real Hummers mega-ground clearance, and most importantly, meant that the -lowest- point under a real hummer was sold frame, not the transaxle hub thing. Very important while 4-wheeling.

Not-Hummers can go highway speeds easily, have better gass milage, and cost $34,000, not $89,000

A real Hummer--by that, I mean an actual HMMWV--likely won't get pulled over for speeding on a highway. Cruising at 55 mph isn't a problem; I doubt exceeding a 70 mph speed limit is likely to happen (note: I never attempted it to find out for certain). The machine isn't intended for highway cruising. If it were, it wouldn't have a diesel engine and the gearing would be much different.

Oh, and should you ever buy a surplus HMMWV, get to a machine shop and have a bracket made to add support to the alternator. I'm just sayin'....
