My family goes out of town again, and what's the first thing I do? Stay late at work, of course...*headdesk* Of course, being on the phone all yesterday meant I came home, stared about a bit, and went to bed early without saying 10 words to [livejournal.com profile] matchgirl42. Sorry 'bout that..

Also, I think I've finally 'broken' a bone; I use scare quotes because I'm not certain, but one of the metatarsals in my left foot has been hurting like hell for the last three weeks most times that pressure is put on it. Maybe a stress fracture, maybe something stupider like arthritis? Bah.

Still not getting much writing done for NaNoWriMo, even though I'm narrowly ahead of [livejournal.com profile] featherynscale (at least until she updates whatever she did on the plane yesterday), but I got "a" website updated.... also finished Stranger in a Strange Land (very Heinleinian), and The Philosopher and the Druids, which was better (and yet different) than expected. That officially brings me up to 50 books this year, first time I've done that since Book-It! in grade school.

Is it Friday yet?

I could tell you were frustrated about something, that's why I didn't pester you. Besides, you know, Labyrinth and all...I was kind of mesmerized, hadn't seen that film in a loooooong time.

Perhaps we should do something tonight? I'll do my best to cheer you up. :)

I just felt bad (but not very bad, obviously) about being a bad host. Sometimes I'm just Done With People. :D

You have anything in mind you want to do for fun? I've got another 50 or so phone calls to make today, so I can't promise I'll be up for anything, but it's a good thought exercise (and we have most of Saturday, too).

I was fine. :) A little worried about you because you were so obviously frustrated/chewing over something bothersome, but I was fine. :)

Hmmmm....well this *is* your city, and I've been here what...going on 3 weeks now? So I haven't a clue.

But the real question is: When are you going to see a doctor about your left foot?!?!?! Not fun, I know, but hell of a lot more important, I'm thinking....

BAH. Temporarily lost access to my "Smile" icon....

Also, off for lunch with S. I should be back by 6pm, but don't be surprised to not get any more replies to this during the afternoon. ;)

Oh, ow. Hope you're able to find out what's wrong with that bone and let it heal soon. (hugs)

I keep thinking it'll go away on its own, and I've never broken a bone so I have no frame of reference. I can still walk on it with minimal pain most days, so it's a little hard to figure out... FNS said I'd be screamin' if it was actually broken. *shrug*grin*

I don't know. Could be a stress fracture, which can spiral into a real fracture if it's not taken care of but which is also hard to diagnose. And, knowing you, I'd say you might not be screaming if it were really broken. :)

Trying the new "edit" function to add: Still, three weeks is a long time for something to be bugging you to that degree. At what point would you consider it worth asking a doctor to look at it?

I'm going to try to call my doctor about it this afternoon, actually.

I don't know about screaming -- I worked the meat department with a snapped-through metacarpal for 6 weeks during holiday rush, and while there were many moments of swearing, there weren't any screams.

Check for swelling compared to the same toe on the other foot, and gently manipulate it to check the movement of the joint compared to the other. That should help narrow things down. You might try buddy taping it to give it a rest. And if you really suspect a fracture, make sure you're eating calcium. It's amazing how quickly my non-mending finger healed when I started supplementing my meat department diet of sausage and bacon with calcium-bearing foods.

I wouldn't bother going to the doctor at this point, unless it gets noticeably worse or doesn't heal up with buddy taping and other common sense measures in 3-4 weeks. About all they can do for you on a toe is say "Yep, it's broken" or "Nope, it's not" and buddy tape it if it is, which leaves you with the exact same treatment as not going but several $$ poorer.

metatarsal, not phalange

It's not a toe, it's actually just behind the ball of the foot, so taping isn't even really an option. I've no idea what it is, beyond "annoying"

In any case, I'll know more in about an hour, since I'm headed to the doctor now...

No problem, I'm usually hazy on foot/hand bone structure myself, but I had just looked at Gray's Anatomy couldn't resist the urge to be pedantic with you...

It's Friday now.

Also, I took her to Jess-n-Jim's, which was tasty and good. Still not as good as [livejournal.com profile] kittenpants' steak, though...we're so spoiled.
