So I finally got a chance to really think about [livejournal.com profile] niveus_tigris's thought experiment; my tray of cups looks a little like this:

  • Gaia Community: A tall tumbler (like a Collins glass for L.I. iced tea); actually the contents are a little like a Long Island Iced Tea as well, lots of small shots of innocuous-sounding things that end up knocking you on your ass. Because the glass is tall and thin, it both fills up rapidly and empties fairly rapidly. Right now it's about 2/3 full, having drained ritual duties out of it for the most part.
  • ADF: A wide, shallow silver bowl, with a little water in the bottom. The part covered in water isn't tarnished, but the rest is fairly neglected. Nuff' said, probably.
  • Work: A double-size stainless steel travel mug, threatening to overflow the cap when you open it to drink. It seems safer to leave it closed, in fact... what's inside has brewed too long, and is stronger than you'd expect.
  • Chosen Family: A set of three chalices; one a martini glass with a multi-angular stem, one a study blue Coke-bottle chalice with tall sides, and one a fluted, delicate piece with a wide basin and base. All three contain different colored liquid as well, in leevls that vary from day to day, but they seem to work together, most of the time.
  • Birth Family: A pair of jelly jar glasses. One's cracked, and the other has a chip, but they've both been well-used and well-loved. Right now they're waiting to be refilled though, so both are less than a quarter full.
  • Gaming: A set of shot glasses. Most have a lot of fingerprints on them, but are currently waiting to be refilled. Some have never been taken out of the wrapper.
  • Finances: A funnel.
  • Reading: The ceramic cups we have in our bathroom come to mind, because I keep one by the bed, usually, and the bed is usually the only place I read anymore. There's a little bit of Kool-aid in the bottom.
  • Craft Projects: An origami paper cup, with just a few droplets of water in the bottom from the last time it was drank from. Something bigger and better will have to be found before it can be filled to the desired level.
  • Health: A canteen that isn't even on the tray, but stored in the garage and collecting dust. Still works, though.
  • SCA: A shattered ceramic mug, with a bit of mead residue stuck to the bottom. It's been like that a while, and shows no real sign of being replaced.

An interesting analytical tool, actually.

Food for thought...

I do like the fact that the cups (vessels, containers) resemble or are a reflection of the areas of life and provide great insight as to what your disposition is. In my own mind, I've been looking for a way to simplify this tool so that I could make it more 'user friendly'...but that would defeat the descriptive way you have presented this. Perhaps I'll reconsider as I prepare to outline those things which are important to me at this time.

That was a reallly interesting read, David, and makes a big difference in my understanding of how you feel. Thank you. (hugs)

I'm still working on what my cups look like and their degree of fullness. What I really need to resolve is that at least a couple of them feel like they have holes in the bottom of them. It doesn't matter how much I put in them, they are always nearly empty.
