War Drobe, in the land of Spare Oom
Dec. 19th, 2005 07:37 amWe went to see Narnia last night after ritual; excellent, excellent film, the best incarnation of it I've seen yet. I was pleasantly surprised to find that I couldn't really note most of what they'd changed, and even some of what I thought they had changed, I was mistaken on (the Captain of the Secret Police had a different name in the American edition I read (and read, and read) as a child). A couple of characters were not as big and scary as I expected (Aslan possibly among them, but NOT Jadis), but overall very good. I can't wait to see Books 3 and 6 made into films... if they do. I suppose The Magician's Nephew isn't Book 6 anymore... is it?
However, it seems to have affected my dreams, just a bit.
I started out tying up a VERY large - like Harley-Davidson-sized - wolverine in our garage, because he was frozen half to death. Then I had to go inside because we were figuring out what to do with the Denver Trinity again... we had super-sized beds this time (like 2 California Kings, side-by-side) but it was complicated by the fact that
amaltheae's mother was in town. We ended up giving her a clever explanation that showed we were not, in fact, all sleeping in the same huge bed, when we were (if innocently - think slumber party). Somehow after her mother left, I ended up chasing
fenton around with a 6-foot length of electrical tape that had become important in the explanation... I think perhaps we were going to put an 'X' on part of the bed, to assure her of no funny business.
Anyway, this soon became largely irrelevant, because I went outside and found another - or was it the same? - giant wolverine creeping around the driveway. This one was not frozen, however, and was in fact pissed. I skidded around the corner a bit, ran behind the car, and hopped into the only seat which was open - the back one. Since it was
kittenpants' car, it wouldn't have done me any good to have the keys anyway - I can't start her car to save my life (literally in this case). What followed was an almost comic montage of the wolverine leaping and hitting the car, but not breaking out the window. Of course, the little Saturn did get knocked sideways, and eventually rolled over on its side and across the yard... but it doesn't weigh much, bless its plastic little heart. And that was about the point where I woke up.
So yeah, think Narnia had anything much to do with it? Still, go see it. It's full of allegory, but I'm not entirely sure it's Christian allegory, if you know what I mean (nudge nudge, wink wink).

Date: 2005-12-19 07:07 pm (UTC)It's been about 20 years since I last read TCoN, but wasn't The Magician's Nephew chronologically the first story?
I remember several years ago, TCoN was re-released, and they'd switched the books from order-of-publication to chronological, which pissed me right the fuck off, since it was clearly fucking around with the Author's Storytelling, and No Good Can Come Of That.
But since The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe was the first book in publication sequence, I am hoping this means that Disney has decided to use the order-of-publication.
