The dream started off as a over-the-left-shoulder view on a duplicating experiment of me (the dream me, who I think was named Nathaniel). I could see everything that was happening, from a certain perspective, though I wasn't actually able to use any of that omniscient POV knowledge. Nathaniel #2 had some serious psychological flaws that made it an unsuitable "replacement" Nathaniel #3 was a pretty good copy, personality-wise, although it was loyal to whoever was doing the copying. I don't know from that point forward if I was me, or me #3.
Then the dream merged with some story I believe I read somewhere, or saw on a sci-fi television show, about a group of scientests who created a remarkable power source, so strong that it pulsed enough radiation that they built it underwater, on a tether, somewhere out on the ocean floor. While they were watching it admiringly, the sonar system showed something else, a large disturbance underwater (some sort of Leviathan) that slowly came up, took the power generating pod in its mouth, and swam on, pulling the tether out of socket before it could pull the entire ship along with it. No idea what the story is or where it came from; anyone who can remember is welcome to tell me. During this same time, however, Nathaniel (who is one of the researchers in this story is being copied again... and the inference from the "clinical voice-over" is that the Leviathan was actually Nathaniel #4, gone horribly wrong. Nathaniels #5 and #6 were suddenly on board the research vessel, and I think they took over everything there. Their new mission was to get back #4, and somehow merge with it... and of course the weirdness of that order woke me up.
Back to bed, if I can. My newest pillow experiment seems to be going well, so far. *snuggles*
