Say my name, bitch!
Oct. 28th, 2005 10:41 amWent to go see Domino last night, on a whim of "everybody's feeling healthy enough to get out of the house, but not really up to doing anything productive". Packed Triscuits and dried craisins for the theater to avoid the lure of Movie Butter™, which is sort of silly considering the confection we were going to devour with our eyes....
This movie was, almost without reservation, the best action movie I've seen all year. I went in with fairly low expectations (Keira K. as a bounty hunter?), but she pulled it off to the level required by the believability of the script.
Think Pulp Fiction meets The Usual Suspects for style, with some Natural Born Killers for cinematography. Quotable, frenetic, and non-linear in good proportions. And, you know, I've never seen ONE Winnebago destroyed in a film, much less two. Bonus points for the most gratuitous abuse of the "bringing a gun to a knife fight" cliche.
For an action film, it had all the right bits, right up until the end. I've heard that they reshot/rewrote some of the ending after the real Domino died a few months before the release date; that probably accounted for some of my disappointment there. But overall? I liked it. I'd certainly see it again. I *do* recommend it. Hell, I might even buy it.
