Tried in earnest to get my (now Windows) computer to talk to the Internet this morning. Came to the conclusion that while an O/S distribution created in 2005 has drivers on board to talk to my ethernet card, an O/S created in 2000 does not. Oops.

Unfortunately I ran out of time before I could dismantle it to find out what manufacturer to download drivers from, but it's a step in the right direction, at least. And given that I have a meeting tonight and fly out tomorrow for Sacramento, it'll probably wait until I return.

Er. Don't you have onboard for that? If that's all it is, I can fix it while you're gone. Unless you really just want to mess with it.

Yeah, if you want to get me a driver and alleviate the problem, that would be great.

It's an onboard ethernet card, but it postdates Win2K, so Windows can't find it. It'll be under "Other Devices" in the Device Manager.

I actually misinterpreted what you said earlier, and I think the ethernet is its own card.

If you want to crack it open and take a look, the machine's off currently (with a working video card, I have that option). I *might* have the disk for the mobo if it's onboard, though...seems like we found that back in January, but I think kittenpants has organized the office software since then. :/
