So I spent much of my morning moving boxes from my boss' office to the storage room we rent, and to her new office, then went to a PR meeting, then spent the afternoon organizing said storage room and finished up with a 3:30 meeting that didn't start until sometime around 4. No big deal, right? Right.

So amidst my Litany Against Spiders Bigger Than My Shoe while reorganizing the storage room, I came across something that never fails to fill me with unrepentant glee when I (re)discover it there. Among the device request forms, giveaways, charcoal grills, ancient staplers and other detritus in the office is a black plastic outdoor trashcan, the sort that stands about 3' high and rolls on two wheels when it is full. Sticking out of this trash can are approximately 20 four-foot-long, one-inch-thick sharpened stakes. They're high quality stakes; nothing but the best for our tax dollars at work. But we've never used them in my tenure at the office these last ~3 years.

I can only assume that sometime between 1998 and 2001, there was a credible threat of vampire infestation in Kansas City that made the Crime Prevention office decide to "Be Prepared."
