1. Pick one thing from my interests list that you like, and explain why.
2. Pick one thing from my interests list that you don't like, and explain why.
3. Pick one thing from my interests list that surprises you, and explain why.
4. Pick one thing from my interests list that you don't understand, and I'll tell you about it.
5. Tell me one thing that's not on my interests list that should be.

I'll have a whack at it.

3. So many TV-related interests. Doesn't seem like you from what I know so far, which arguably isn't a vast amount.
4. john woo with doves. Plus, you're the only LJ user with this one.
5. Not sure, obviously (see #3), but with all the SCA/medieval stuff, I don't see any Renaissance Fair interests.

3. I guess the TV bits are as close to surprised as I get, but seeing as how we are related and all not much surprises me (and, don't tell anyone but I like TV too.)
4. anti-determinism
5. some obscure mathematical thingie

I hate to admit it in this crowd, but although I find Mr. Quinn to be exceedingly interesting and I am glad that I read his stuff, I find many of his theories to contain the ring of insufferable bullshit. Some good ideas, a lot of things that do need to be thought about, weak on the interpretation.
3. Marksmanship surprised me. I don't know why.
4. N/A - I understand the list.
5. Hrm... how about "voluptuous egotistical leos"? No? Maybe "statistical geekery", or "hiking with dogs"?
Stealing this.
Date: 2004-07-01 07:31 pm (UTC)2. tv:the x-files - I hate this show because it terrifies me. :(
3. Nothing really surprised me.
4. kemetic unorthodox rat screws - NO idea what this means.
5. I don't think I know you well enough to suggest an interest.

4. Actually, it's supposed to be "John Woo without doves". I like John Woo movies, sometimes, but the thing with the doves, where he incldes white doves flying through in slo-mo at some crucial firefight sequence, really gets annoying...other than that, and Mission Impossible II, I like him.
5. Hmmm, well I've never done Renn. Faires (as more than a playtron, anyway). I did really enjoy the Medieval Faire down in Norman, OK, and that's not far off different...but mainly I like it "the older the better". :)

3. See above.
4. This fed into a discussion I had with

5. Hmmm, something about viking with dogs, maybe...

4. Hehe. Unfortunately you're a little far away to have ever played this with us, but it's a card game

4. Daniel Quinn is an author, who wrote several books in the 90s about culture and society. Ishmael is one of the famous ones, as is The Story of B (which I haven't read yet). Essentially, they're about rejecting the Protestant-work-ethic, consumer-capitalism, hoard-and-deficit-spend dominant culture in favor of something that is supposed to be more tribal, sustainable, natural. As mentioned above, there may or may not be 100% facts behind his stuff, but it IS thought-provoking. You are welcome to borrow Ishmael at some point if you like.
deal!
