Saw 'Underworld' last night..
Oct. 4th, 2003 05:59 amIt wasn't nearly as bad as the reviews have made it out to be; as a matter of fact, for a monster movie, it's pretty good. The characters get off some good lines, the fight scenes (with the noticeable exception of the very first one, which is atrociously edited) are kinetic without being overblown, and the plot twists were both believable and surprising (unlike some movies we won't mention *cough*Blade II*cough*). The character names are pretty standard, although
kittenpants says there's some surprisingly accurate Hungarian references in it (the hospital name, the ancestor family, etc).
If you've been staying away because of the reviews, give it a try; I admit I had a hard time following it until about the second act, but that could just have been basement-low expectations. If you've been staying away because you don't like monster flicks, then I wouldn't change your mind. If you haven't seen it yet because you're not sure about seeing Kate Beckinsale in leather and vinyl - I don't think I can convince you. ;)
Oh, and the Soundtrack is easily one of the best parts. Maynard James Keenan, Danny Lohner, Wes Borland, Skinny Puppy, Trust Company, David Bowie, A Perfect Circle, etc... might have to pick that up before the movie itself.
