So as most of you have heard, our roof parted ways with us (and itself) last Friday. Cleverly enough, our homeowner's insurance appears to actually cover this sort of thing, so we'll be getting new coverage sometime Real Soon Now. We even get our choice of shingles (within reason)! Mostly we're down to one light color and one dark color, but you can take a look if you like...

Current (or should I say, former) roofline of our house.
Current (or should I say, former) roofline of our house.

Potential new roof, with the 'Amber' shingles. These will be cooler in the summer.
Potential new roof, with the 'Amber' shingles.

Potential new roof, with the 'Teak' shingles. These are a bit more traditional, and match the shutters well.
Potential new roof, with the 'Teak' shingles.

Potential new roof, with the 'Blue' shingles. The surprisingly subdued 'Harbor Blue' shingles.

Potential new roof, with the 'Brownwood' shingles. The 'Brownwood' shingles, which don't really match our color scheme.

Potential new roof, with the 'Driftwood' shingles. The 'Driftwood' shingles, which are very similar to what we had before.

Potential new roof, with the 'Slate Gray' shingles. The 'Slate Gray' shingles, just a bit more character than Driftwood.

Potential new roof, with the 'Chateau Green' shingles. The 'Chateau Green' shingles... just, no (even for me).

Potential pictures provided by Owens-Corning's rather nifty visualization tool. You can do roofs, siding, stonework, and other changes all with their model homes or a shot of your current place (ignore the armature on the porch).

My vote? Teak or Harbor Blue, in that order.

The differences all look very slight to me in any of the acceptable colors, so I vote for cooler-in-the-summer.

I think my vote would go this way also.

I'll always go with the energy-saving choice, so Amber is my first pic. But the Harbor Blue color is pretty.

I like the Harbor Blue and Amber. The thing about the Harbor Blue, though, is that they kind of put me in mind of a sea coast town and you guys are the NO Coast Avengers.

Yeah, many of the midtones were practically identical to our eyes too.

Yeah, they're quite a bit more blue in the sample picture than the composite image:

Yes, Driftwood is very close to what we had before -- I believe this is the color that I used for repairs on the north side last year. It's also my top pick, along with Slate Gray.

Harbor blue will weather to a slightly blue-gray rather than a blue, I think, but it would take a while and it's not my favorite of the options.

I would call driftwood and slate gray compromises -- they'd certainly be cooler than teak, and don't clash dreadfully with the shutters/paint. Teak certainly goes with the shutters, but there's also nothing to say that the shutters can't be repainted to match something like the Amber. Especially since my recollection is that they're simply architectural add-ons rather than functional shutters.

Yeah, and Amber has a bit more character up-close:

Also, you're right about the shutters, they're merely decorative, and in fact bolted to the siding.

I like the blue. The teak is also eye-popping. But if you want to blend in, amber or slate gray would work.

Energy savings wins out over color matching< which as already mentioned can be adjusted. My vote is for Amber.

Teak and harbor blue are pretty, but the amber is probably the most practical choice, and it's not offensive. I remember how the A/C would struggle to keep the upper floor cool in the summer. Amber will save energy costs and keep the house cooler in summer. That makes for a prettier green than "chateau".
