Sanderson is a great writer if you're unfamiliar with his work. Pick up Elantris if you're not.

This is why I never picked up the series in the first place.

Elantris was not bad at all, especially for a first published work. The Mistborn trilogy started rough but really excelled at the end.

He's just putting off the inevitable moment of Rand al'Thor's grisly martyrdom, that's all.

This series is why I try to never start an unfinished series by a living author, since 1995. :)

I violated that (twice!) earlier this year with Elizabeth Bear, but she writes fast as hell, AND I didn't know they were series books.

And strangely, I'm okay with that.

And then they're going to try and make movies! Assuming they manage to cram each book into just one film, and they release one per year with no breaks or missteps, those should be done by around 2025. The actor who will play Olver may not even be born until after TEOTW hits theaters.

Been reading this since BPB (before princess boredom) I'd like to be through with it before she graduates high school.

Dude. JKR hurt all us HP dorks when she said there would only be seven books but you WoT folks are worse off for not knowing if it will ever end.

I'm actually pretty okay with this.
Then again, I'm the one who still has both parts of the Battlestar Galactica finale sitting on the DVR, untouched.
*shrugs*

Eh, so long as the story's treated well, I'm all for more words and more books. One of the reasons I enjoy WoT so much is the dense mythos woven into the background, so for me more = good, since every chapter is another chance to learn something new about the world and the mythology and the history. Yes, I'm totally taking it from the Brown Ajah perspective. :P

Holy make the madness stop batman! I haven't read the last few...intentionally. I'm waiting for the last book(s) to come out so I can re-read the whole lot in one fell swoop.

I was fine with the concept of splitting it into two. And reading Sanderson's explanation of the split makes me feel marginally better (especially since he says we wouldn't have seen the end until 2011 either way), it's just massively irritating to have the EXIT sign moved every few years.

B. Sanderson projects the final book will come out November 2011.

And that's a good perspective to take (I wouldn't be helping manage the WoTwiki if I didn't love the detail). It's more the ice-water-shock of having "three. more. books!" (again)...

It's like Rand al'Thor thought he could just Travel into the Blight, yell "Mission Accomplished!" and then fight Tarmon Gaidan without an exit strategy!

That would actually be hilarious. It's happened (maybe still happening) with the Dune books, too. And then there was the Tolkien books...
