What are you doing June 7th?
May. 19th, 2008 10:25 amJune 7th, 2008 marks the 43rd anniversary of the U.S. Supreme Court decision Griswold v. Connecticut. The American Life League/STOPP International is planning "Protest the Pill Day '08" as a response, mostly centered around Planned Parenthood clinics that provide the pill (I guess organizing enough people to block all the CVS/Osco/whatever would have been too tough).
Anybody feel like mounting a counterprotest? The only nearby clinic that has a registered protest so far is the Overland Park location (supposedly starting at 6:45AM), but keep an eye on Missouri or whatever state you happen to live in, if you're reading from farther afield. Look for the locations with a black dot in the map marker.

Date: 2008-05-19 04:21 pm (UTC)Fate's kind of shot them in the foot this year with June 7 falling on a Saturday. I think the OP clinic is the only Planned Parenthood in the KC area that's open at all on Saturdays.

I can be the poster child for The Pill Saves Lives. As sucktastic as my colposcopy was (and I'm still a bit sore from the biopsy, damnit), if I weren't on the Pill, I seriously doubt I'd have gotten around to getting my Pap, and thus wouldn't have known I was having cervical issues. Take that, bitches!

Date: 2008-05-19 05:21 pm (UTC)I stopped using PP's services (and upped my donations to them) when they started cutting back hours in this area. I know they don't have the money to keep the kinds of services going that the metro needs.
I'm a different sort of poster boy for The Pill Saves Lives - I believe strongly that if I ever got pregnant, I would shoot myself in the head rather than live through the experience. The horror that the concept holds for me is pretty significant.
And I will admit that I totally missed your post.

Date: 2008-05-19 05:27 pm (UTC)Y'know, pregnancy I think I could survive. It's childbirth that scares the everliving fuck out of me. All during my colposcopy I'm sitting there thinking, well shit, if I'm getting all oogy about someone just poking at my cervix, how the fuck could I survive a tiny human being shoved through it? If I have children, there will be epidurals. Oh, yes.
Here it is, if you're curious (though it's mostly me being somewhat bitchy): http://kaymyth.livejournal.com/261698.html#cutid1
