Sacramento, Day Three
May. 27th, 2005 02:52 pmLearning experience of the day: Apparently, you can be a Baptist Minister and a Scientologist. At least, that was the impression I got from our morning speaker, Rev. Alfreddie Johnson (sic). How one skull can simultaneously contain the thoughts "personal responsibility means acknowledging no power outside your self", and "we do not act in our communities, we allow God to act through us", is beyond my ken.
Also, I was preached at over my potatoes and eggs, but I was more entranced by his self-contradictory speechifyin'. Well, mostly. I still walked out eventually. Even the Catholic in our group agreed he was a little much.
Further adventures ensued this afternoon when the presentation on "A Common Sense Yet Powerful Way to Happiness In Your Neighborhood", which promised a secular presentation on working with different ethnicities, cultures, and religions, turned out to be masked Scientology ( Read more... )
