"Strawberry Fields Forever", all the Time, in the Rain?

What the hell? I've heard this song referenced three times this morning; once as a cover, twice in the lyrics of other songs.

What's this song all about, anyway?

Strawberry Fields was an orphanage in Liverpool that Lennon played near (I believe in the woods behind it) when he was young. The song is about the nostalgia of growing up, not knowing who you are, but growing, even if you don't know who you are, where you will be, and no one else is in your tree, but it's okay and good. The confusion of youth is acceptable and enjoyable for some.

Oh, and

So if I had to interpret that, I'd say deity is trying to give you some advice to tap into your inner child -- confusing times, but you're growing, but who knows where? Listen to your inner child -- accept that there is nothing to get hung about when you look through the lenses of your inner child eyes.

And yet, it could be deity trying to tell you to add more Beatles to your listening rotation.

Were you using my iPod? If so, I'm guessing it was the Ben Harper cover, but what other songs reference it?

As to what the song is about, your guess is as good as mine, as long as your guess is "getting high". :)

Yeah, the Ben Harper version came on first, followed closely by... Bush's "Glycerine", I think.

And then after I got back in the car, the Indigo Girls' "Closer to Fine" came on, which also has the phrase in it.

???
Here's the even better part: That phrase does not appear in Closer to Fine.

Hrm. I may be wrong then as to what song it was.... I'll listen again over lunchtime, but I thought that one was it.

::edit:: Oops; it was Tori Amos' "Happy Phantom". Knew it was a female singer...

I'd always heard that it was about "I buried Paul ... "

I kind of like the song playing while you wrote this, personally. ::snort::

I am, of course, shocked... (this was actually the remix off of one of the Matrix films - still, not bad).

I've always thought the message of that song was "go with the flow."

I could be wrong.

Could be true.
