God Auction, the wrap-up?

Dreamt about ridiculous feats of archery, battling and eventually reasoning with hordes of monsters (a bit like Davy Jones' Crew crossed with Alien's Xenomorphs, in this case), and then reasoning with the last surviving monsters, in order to get them a fair armistice and relocation. Yep, nothing to see here...

In not-unrelated news, the God Auction is done for 2007. Apollo did not win, but came in a very respectable 2nd, and still made some...well, impressions I think with some of his ideas. And the overall total in both food and money donations was massively increased, so that's definitely a success. More pictures can be found here and here, but my favorite is this one:

And now, work.

Do I spy a Flying Spaghetti Monster?

[identity profile] ysathora.livejournal.com 2007-07-10 01:34 pm (UTC)(link)
After looking at the second set, yes I see that I was correct :)

So who did win?

[identity profile] hekatatia.livejournal.com 2007-07-10 01:56 pm (UTC)(link)
Great picture! Who won? You keep us in suspense...

[identity profile] zylch.livejournal.com 2007-07-10 02:04 pm (UTC)(link)
I noticed that donations were waaay above what they were in years past. Anyone know why that is? (I'm wondering if it might have something to do with the penny nickle dime quarter auction getting people excited about and invested in it earlier.)

[identity profile] saffronhare.livejournal.com 2007-07-10 02:15 pm (UTC)(link)
I've got some ideas about that, but there will probably be more discussion at the ritual teams meeting and RfB. :)

[identity profile] zylch.livejournal.com 2007-07-10 02:31 pm (UTC)(link)
I look forward to the findings... I just hope someone remembers to post the darn minutes/summary!

[identity profile] zylch.livejournal.com 2007-07-10 02:33 pm (UTC)(link)
er... there should have been a smiley in there, lest anyone think that I (the worstest minutes-taker ever) am suggesting that I could do a better job of it.

Oh, sorry! Brigid won the day, and is community patron for the coming year. That makes two hearth goddesses in a row, following Hestia last year.

More information (if I haven't posted it before) is at http://www.gaiacommunity.org/godauction.shtml

Yerk, sorry! I forget not everyone's on our email list; Brigid won, which is not terribly surprising, as she's a favorite (almost every Imbolc we do has her involved).

No, it's a valid complaint, and I've got several notes/records I should post, once my brain returns from vacation...

[identity profile] capriciouslass.livejournal.com 2007-07-10 02:50 pm (UTC)(link)
yes, but I'm RTC now... If someone will take the minutes, I'll make sure they get typed up and posted to the list/wiki.

Not really sure (except maybe that the penny auction is making us better at picking exciting candidates). Food donations have actually been growing at a slower pace than monetary, from my preliminary number-crunching.

[identity profile] capriciouslass.livejournal.com 2007-07-10 02:51 pm (UTC)(link)
If you prefer, you can give 'em to me. I can get them typed and posted.

[identity profile] zylch.livejournal.com 2007-07-10 03:11 pm (UTC)(link)
Perhaps of note, Brighid *would* have been in last year's auction, except Oghma was higher in the penny auction and we didn't want two from the same pantheon. Since Hestia was one of the runners up, we swapped her in.

Our community seems to like fire...

As soon as I remember where I put my camera to bring it home, I'll post my pictures. :)

Also, I think you did a hell of a job, even if you didn't win. I came in not certain of who I would support, and your talking points totally won me. I'm processing some Clever Plans based on them, in fact.... in other words, Doom.

[identity profile] fionnabhar.livejournal.com 2007-07-10 04:36 pm (UTC)(link)
I was also highly persuaded by Apollo's suggestion that we quit doing the same shit over and over again without getting anywhere. I highly support taking his suggestion anyway and stop doing that right this minute.

In the end, though, it was the clan bond that won out for me. And don't mean that flippantly at all. It was a spiritual pull that I couldn't move out of even if other ideas were compelling. I can't think of any other way to describe was going on internally.

[identity profile] featherynscale.livejournal.com 2007-07-10 04:40 pm (UTC)(link)
For serious. If we can ever get to a place where we are not doing the same shit over and over again, I will dance with unrestrained joy.

And I'm not disappointed to be working with Brigid, either. I love Brigid. I'm just thinking, "Oh, yeah, clarity of vision -- let's get some of that!"

That was the salient point I got out of it too. He/I impressed myself with that round, and I've already intended to work on our systems. I figure if that's the skill I have and can use/teach for the betterment of the community, that's a double-win, right?

[identity profile] fionnabhar.livejournal.com 2007-07-10 04:44 pm (UTC)(link)
Absolutely on the clarity of vision.

It was maybe more a notion that I owed her some sort of public honor after her patronage of the novel. I had the feeling it would be a Very Bad Idea Indeed to make offerings at any other altar. And it's not as if the amount we had to hand to offer would have change the outcome anyway. I was very aware of that even in the moment.

[identity profile] fionnabhar.livejournal.com 2007-07-10 04:45 pm (UTC)(link)
Word. I get very frustrated with the entropy of systems, though. The storage room is a case in point. Two summers ago, that baby was organized and spotless. I know because I did it myself. Two months later? Not so much. Now? Holy shit. Maybe what's more difficult is clarity of vision over time.

[identity profile] triadruid.livejournal.com 2007-07-10 04:56 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, our entropy level is bad (something to do with high turnover in leadership positions, despite the fact that our actual leaders/volunteers don't change too much), but I think freeing up some time from rotating in place might help with that.

The storage closet? I'm thinking plague arrows or fire, really. We've already got the mice...

[identity profile] fionnabhar.livejournal.com 2007-07-10 04:59 pm (UTC)(link)
Which was inadvertently my "fault," I fear. I had a couple of penny rolls in my purse from school that I'd cashed in while arranging a field trip, and I stuck them in there on the last day of voting.

I like Air. :-)

Honey, that's nothing compared to the ballot stuffing going on this year. ;) There were more dollar coins and quarters than pennies, some days...

[identity profile] featherynscale.livejournal.com 2007-07-10 05:49 pm (UTC)(link)
I'd object, except that I was in there on Sunday, and the ratio of Things That Are Worth Using In Ritual to Things That Somebody Put Down Here In Case We Wanted One is pretty effing low.

[identity profile] capriciouslass.livejournal.com 2007-07-10 08:28 pm (UTC)(link)
I just have to say that every time I see this picture it looks less like you and more like him. I'm just sayin'.
Excellent job, sir!

I'll second that.
