All twisted up

Locals with a bit of free time this weekend could do a LOT worse than to visit the KC Fringe Festival at the River Market this weekend. We ventured out last night (despite a late dinner and accidents on 71 Hwy) for the Naughty Knickers burlesque show, and were FAR from disappointed. Grand fun and glorious routines by eight beautiful and talented women. Favorites were Sweet Louise, Crimson Sugar, and Puss in Boots, but they're all excellent performers. Get there early if you're going; the show is at 412-A Delaware but the room only holds about 40 people, and was full on Thursday night! Make sure to get your festival button and tickets at 500 Delaware first; full schedule for the festival is at http://www.kcfringe.org/pdfs/2007schedule.pdf

And the Etre Art show features a rockin' good band with a spectacular darbuka player(!)--and the dancers aren't bad, either. It is also at 412A Delaware, only outside the building on the north side.

Tonight's performance is at 11 pm, tomorrow's at 6:30 pm. The front row seating requires a ticket; general standing room on the sidewalk and such doesn't (though we'd love to see the folks watching from the sidewalk donate, as the proceeds go to charity [we're not getting paid to perform]).

I can also recommend shows by Vesuvius and Better Than Nothing. No, I don't perform with them; I do know some of the folks involved, though, and greatly enjoy their shows.

How early would you say early should be? I was planning on getting down there at 7:45 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. for the 9:30 show.

According to [livejournal.com profile] breathofgold's new post, the house opens at 9. We got there at 9:33 on Thursday night and there were just five seats left (aisles have to remain open because they come out into the audience). Seating is also flat, so some of the seated/floor stage work will be missed unless you're willing to stand (I did) or in one of the front rows/aisles. Show is a little over an hour, I believe...

So I have one more question. You mentioned picking up tickets at 500 Delaware first. Were the tickets you purchased generic (meaning good for any show at the festival) or were they Naughty Knickers specific? Just trying to clarify processes as there has been some confusion.

You are correct that you can buy generic tickets anywhere for the Naughty Knickers show. [livejournal.com profile] zerself and I were there around 9:15 and got seats three rows back. I think you'll be fine getting there at 8 pm, but I'm sure it'll be crowded being Friday night and so highly rated. Prepare to fight for your seats. :)

It was a great show. Sweet Louise was awesome, of course, and Puss in Boots has some smokin' lingerie and an ass that won't quit. Have fun!

Tickets are general. You can buy them in bundles for cheaper, but we were just coming for the one show, so it was $5 for the Festival Button (good all weekend), and $5 for each ticket.
